If you’re after a show-stopping dessert that takes hardly any effort, this Thermomix chocolate mousse is it. Super smooth, rich and airy, it’s the kind of treat that feels fancy but is secretly super simple.

With just a few basic ingredients and the magic of the Thermomix, you’ll have an indulgent dessert ready in no time—perfect for dinner parties, date nights, or a sweet reward after a long day. Let me show you how easy it is to whip up!

This recipe really needs to come with a warning. It's addictive. I mean seriously addictive.

Plus it's so easy to make you'll find it hard to resist whipping up a replacement batch once you lick the last spoon of your first.

Why make this recipe?

  1. Texture - mousse made in the Thermomix is incredibly smooth and creamy. No lumps, no graininess, just rich, velvety mousse every time.
  2. Faster & easier than other methods - No need to melt chocolate on the stove or whisk egg whites by hand—Thermomix does the heating, mixing, and whipping for you in one bowl!
  3. Less washing up - Since everything happens in the one bowl, there’s barely any cleanup - the Thermomix basically cleans itself.
  4. Perfect for busy families - Quick enough to make while the kids play, but fancy enough to impress guests—great for weeknights or special occasions.
  5. Foolproof - Precise temperature control means no burnt chocolate, no curdled eggs - just consistent, delicious mousse every single time.

It's also gluten free making it a great one for if you have guests with intolerances.

Also - just in case I haven't given enough reasons to make you want to make this - I consider it a relatively nutritious snack. Yes it has chocolate but it also has a lot of egg per serve and the good filling fats of cream.

Ingredients in Thermomix chocolate mousse

Ingredients

To make chocolate mousse you will need just 5 ingredients:

  • Sugar - raw sugar, caster sugar or even rapadura sugar will work well for this. You can also cut it back a little if you want to reduce the sugar.
  • Chocolate - dark gives the best flavour for this. Milk chocolate is a little bit too sweet but you can do a combo of the two.
  • Eggs - separated. Make sure you don't get any yolk in the white.
  • Cream - full fat cream is best.
  • Salt - we like to use Celtic sea salt but any will do.

Equipment

Obviously to make Thermomix chocolate mousse you will need a Thermomix (here's why I love my Thermomix).

You can make chocolate mousse without it though.

Instructions

I find it pretty tricky to take photos of making Thermomix recipes so sorry no photo pics but see the full instructions in the recipe card below.

Just make sure that you wash the bowl thoroughly between melting the chocolate and whipping the egg whites or your egg whites won't whip.

The key to this recipe is nice fluffy egg whites!

To make it without a Thermomix:

  • use icing sugar in place of regular sugar
  • complete the first step in a saucepan on the stove
  • whip the egg whites using a whisk or mixer
  • fold the egg whites into the melted chocolate mixture and then refrigerate as per the Thermomix instructions.

Tips

Chocolate mousse can be made in individual serving cups/bowls or in one big container then served in scoops.

These dessert cups would look very cute & are perfect for a dinner party.

Make it at least 4 hours before serving to make sure it sets.

Variations

CHOCOLATE

You can vary the chocolate to taste. I like it with all dark chocolate but the kids like a combination of dark and milk.

SUGAR

You can use whatever type of sugar you have on hand and add a little more or less.

Honey could also be used.

FLAVOUR

If you want to mix up the flavour some options you could include are:

  • orange zest
  • vanilla beans
  • cinnamon powder
  • a splash of Bailey's or Cointreau for a grown-up version
3 jars of Chocolate mousse topped with cream and chocolate shavings

Serving

Serve chocolate mousse straight from the fridge. We love it as is but some topping ideas include:

  • fresh berries
  • whipped cream (if you used up all your cream, here's how to make dairy-free whipped cream)
  • shaved chocolate

Alternatively, you could serve a little scoop of chocolate mousse as a side addition to a serving of something like berry and almond cake.
