Sugar free tomato sauce made in just 20 minutes – homemade ketchup that tastes like store bought with no nasties and high fructose corn syrup free.
Sugar free tomato sauce
Were you an eat-anything-and-everything sort of kid or a little miss/mr fussy?
Me?
Well I was what would now be my worst nightmare – a very very fussy kid. While mostly, I’m pretty sure I was just annoying, to me, there were some benefits.
I never had tomato sauce – even homemade sugar free tomato sauce.
While my sister used to smother it on everything, I hated the thought of it and even now the smell doesn’t really appeal to me.
It’s probably one of the only good habits to come out of my fussy days.
I know a lot of people love tomato sauce (or ketchup) though.
Personally, I’m not that keen on the store-bought version which usually contains high fructose corn syrup (you can read about why high fructose corn syrup is no good for you here) so I made my own to serve with party sausage rolls for my oldest son’s first Birthday.
I don’t know why I hadn’t made it before because it was seriously simple.
You literally throw all the ingredients in a pan, heat it up and leave it for 20ish minutes and it’s done.
That’s it.
Not one person asked me about it, ever Will or my dad so my assumption is that it tastes just like the real deal with no nasties added.
Success! Enjoy!

Hi, this sounds delish. Have you cooked in the Thermomix yet? I will definitely give this a go in mine. Love your posts thanks.
I haven’t Suzi but it would be super easy in it. Just throw it all in and I’d say 90 or 100. Thanks for your lovely words! Claire
Great recipe, Claire. I do believe in making your own tomato sauce as the commercial varieties are so full of sugar. This would be lovely as the vinegar and garlic would give wonderful flavours. I’ll have to try this! xx
Yep so much unnecessary sugar! x
What is tomato passata, crushed tomatoes?
Helene yep it is pureed crushed tomatoes that have been reduced a little. You could make your own.
I made some recently although it’s quite a different recipe. I’m one of those ketchup lovers though!
Haha you and Will would get on fine then!
