I really enjoy corn. The kids do too and in fact my younger son used to love it so much he wouldn't even wait until it was cooked.
Seriously I'd be peeling off the husk and he'd scream at me until I broke him off a few kernels.
Now you probably know I'm all about keeping things simple but husking corn - it's not my favourite thing to do.
Yes I love corn. No I don't love husking it. I also don't enjoy pulling the hairs out of my teeth.
Then I learned how to shuck corn in less than 10 seconds from my friend Rebekah Allen. Seriously - life changed!
Why Use This Method For Cooking Corn
- NO HAIRS! - Do I need to say any more? No one likes having to pull corn hairs out of their teeth.
- Quick - 3 minutes to cook and 10 seconds to husk it.
- Less mess - no pieces of corn silk all over the bench. It all comes off with the husk & straight into the bin or compost.
It's funny, when I go away with my mastermind girls we have such raging adventures. One time I learned how to fold a fitted sheet.
Yes ok I know it's a really simple trick but it's the little things that add up. Simple, small changes that make life easier that add up to very big changes.

How To Cook Corn On The Cob
- Microwave the whole cob of corn (husk on) for 3 minutes (apparently you can do two at once for 4-5 minutes).
- Remove using a tea towel then cut off the end that was attached to the plant so you're cutting a little bit of the cob off.
- Using the tea towel, stand it up on the cut end and carefully squeeze the corn out.
- You're done.
Yes it takes 3 mins to microwave it but you'd have to cook it anyway.
This way it's perfectly cooked and hair/silk free!
Corn Cooking Tip
Make sure you use a tea towel or oven mitts to hold the corn as it will be VERY hot straight from the microwave.
Recipe FAQs
No. It's best to do the corn cobs one at a time so they cook evenly.
This method works best when you cook the whole ears of corn in the microwave as you can control the cooking much more easily. You could also steam it over boiling water in the husk.
