This recipe has been a long time in the making. Let me take you back about a year to an instagram post. In my hand was the most delicious ‘chocolate’ smoothie I have ever had in my life. It was held in front of one of my favourite stalls at my most favourite farmers markets in the whole world – the Noosa Farmer’s Markets.
It was smooth, thick and rich. So thick I wanted a spoon to eat it like slightly-melted gelato. I think if I’d frozen it a little I could have made anyone think it was actually the much-loved, ice-cold dessert.
But this wasn’t your regular, heavy, sugar-laden chocolate smoothie, oh no this was packed full of goodness. There wasn’t an un-natural ingredient in sight. Just raw, fresh, organic goodies.
Ever since that day I have tried so hard to recreate it and today I give you the best ever healthy chocolate smoothie. Yes it’s so good I had to give the title its own photo.
I took me months and months to discover my missing ingredient – coconut milk – which gives it the smooth, creaminess that makes it the consistency of the unhealthy version. Now that I’ve finally mastered it I insist you try it. Don’t be tempted to leave out any of the ingredients though. Trust me they all play a vital role.
I can honestly say not many days have passed without me whipping up one of these for afternoon tea. Pretty much every day, as soon as I put Ollie down for his afternoon nap I race to the kitchen and blitz it all up then head to the office to finish of my work for the day.
Please don’t be angry if you try it and become addicted too. At least you’ll be addicted to something healthy. Enjoy!
Looking for something a bit naughtier… try mychocolate mud cake

Oh Claire…. I was so excited and then I saw banana :( I’m allergic to it… can you recommend anything to replace it as a lot of smoothies have banana in them and I would love and alternative! Liz xx
Hi Liz. A bit tough cause banana give it the creaminess but you could possibly freeze coconut milk?
