I saw the Queen!

The Queen visits Brisbane

Yesterday, I had the royal privililge of seeing Her Majesty the Queen before she departed for her cruise down the Brisbane River. All I can say is wow.

Here she comes

I wasn't really thinking too much about it until the motorcade came into view. Then my heart started racing. I was going to see the Queen!

The Royal Range Rover

She definitely travels in style in this sleek black Range Rover.

The Queen

I caught a glimpse of the royal wave then thought it was all over. I decided to make a run for it and see if I could possibly get a better shot when she got out of the car.

She's over there

I found a spot a few rows back, stuck my camera-wielding hand in the air and started shooting. I realised I was elbowing the person to my right and when I turned to apologise discovered it was a policeman. Oops! He didn't seem to mind. I think he was just as excited as I was.

The Royal handbag

A little sneaking through the crowd and a lovely lady letting me in front of her got me up close and personal just one row back from the Queen. I'd love to know who the guy behind the camera is. He must have photos of me taking photos of the Queen.

Her Majesty's gorgeous hat

See that clasp... Royal Jewels up close! Isn't her hat beautiful?

A very excited Premier Anna Bligh

Our Premier Anna Bligh seemed just as excited as everyone else. That smile didn't leave her face the whole time she was there.

Accepting flowers

The Queen accepted flowers from a line up of smiling school children.

My grandma waiting for the Queen

My grandma came down to sight the Queen too. Doesn't she look fabulous? She dresses this well all the time!

The crowd

There was quite a turnout to see the Queen and it was well worth the sunburnt shoulders. I don't think I'll ever forget seeing the Queen. What about you? Have you ever seen royalty?

I've not met a royal, but I do have a story to share.

I wrote to Her Majesty when I was five and invited her and the corgis to my 6th birthday party. I got a lovely calligraphed letter in response from a lady-in-waiting who apologised profusely on the Queen's behalf, as she already had other engagements with some diplomats from Greece.

    I've never forgiven the Greeks.

Wow that's a fantastic story! That's so lovely that they wrote to you and I can understand why you would never forgive the Greeks.
