How to make a straw easel

Straw easel

I get a bit excited about setting the table. Back when I was younger, it used to be the chore we were asked to do while mum put the finishing touches on dinner. We'd always ask whether we needed knives and forks, splades or chopsticks and then if you were in charge you got to select the placemats and napkins from the rather large collection.

It really wasn't that bad a task and as we got older, it was a bit of a challenge to decorate the table a little bit differently every night. Now when I have guests I love setting the table.

I have quite a stash of table setting goodies from cutlery to salt and pepper shakers/holders and all sorts of table cloths and decorations. For our girls night, I wanted it to be bright and cheery because the Birthday girl loves colour. That morning I took a plastic bag with me on my walk and collected flowers around the neighbourhood. Centrepiece - check!

I wanted something a little extra for the table decoration and remembered some cute little homemade straw easels I'd seen on Pinterest a while ago. I have a bit of an oversupply of paper straws since discovering them for $2 at the junk shop so whipped out my trusty glue gun and got crafty.

They only took about 10 minutes to whip up and I loved the effect. They'd make fun place-card holders or labels for food on a buffet - just change up the colours to suit the occasion. You need 3 and a half straws per stand or you can make them half size which would be super cute.

What about you? Do you like setting the table?

I could do something like that for Archie's 21st - but I'd need to make a hundred of them! I'd better get started. I was always asked to set the table too; I think it's a good habit for children to get into. It's amazing how many adults don't know how to properly set a table xx

You'd need a bit of a production line I think. Isn't it terrible? What's worse is how many don't know how to use a knife and fork! x

I love setting the table too. I even bought one of those books about folding napkins. I rarely do anything but fold rectangles but I'm prepared if the mood hits me.

I like your little easels. I'll file that idea with my napkins. :)

Ooh I'd love to be able to do some fancy folds! Maybe you should do a napkin folding post :-)
