Peppermint bath salts are the perfect, simple and natural homemade Christmas gift made using pure essential oils and epsom salts.
Peppermint bath salts
I’ve said it before but I love giving homemade Christmas gifts for so many reasons especially when they are something that can be consumed.
They’re often a much more cost-effective gift and I love that they’re much less likely to end up shoved in a cupboard or sent to landfill which let’s face it, can often happen with Christmas gifts especially for people you might not know really well.
I know, something like peppermint bath salts isn’t really difficult to buy but I’ve got a few reasons I like to make my own.
Why make your own bath salts?
You know what’s in them
Store-bought bath salts, very rarely just contain salts and essential oils and if they do, unless you’re buying them from a reputable source where you know which essential oils they use, they will often contain artificial fragrance.
Artificial fragrance can be any combination of chemically ingredients which have a suggested link to everything from headaches and skin irritation to hormonal issues and infertility.
I personally use dōTERRA essential oils which are 100% pure and I don’t buy anything containing fragrance.
Bath salts are quick and easy to make
You can literally make a batch of bath salts in less than 5 minutes if you have all the ingredients ready.
You can make different scents of bath salts
Maybe the man you’re giving too isn’t too into peppermint or you want something much more feminine, by making your own bath salts, you can alter the added essential oils to suit.
You really can’t go wrong with a lavender bath for soothing and relaxing.
One kilogram of epsom salts will probably cost you about $10 and make quite a few little jars depending how many baths you want each jar to contain.
The only other ingredients you will need are himlayan salt (it’s not 100% necessary but I like to add it for its health benefits along with the hint of pink) and pure essential oils.
If you purchase your ingredients from a bulk-fill shop then you’re not creating any waste making these beautiful gifts and your recipients are left with a jar they can then reuse or recycle.
Plus, epsom salts and pure essential oils aren’t going to do any damage when they end up in our waterways.
If you’re using recylced jars for your gifts, I have an awesome tutorial on how to remove the labels from glass jars.
Why can an epsom salt bath be good for you?
Epsom salts are high in magnesium (unlike regular salt which is high in sodium – we need that too) which a lot of people are often lacking.
It has been suggested that magnesium and soaking in epsom salts which contain magnesium – remember the skin is our largest organ and can absorb nutrients – could help with muscle tension, sleep issues, headaches and stress.
If nothing else, I love using peppermint bath salts as an excuse to have at least 10 minutes alone time in the bath.
Where do you buy epsom salts?
You should be able to find epsom salts at your local bulk fill shop like The Source if you’re in Australia or, I also like to buy epsom salts online from The Wholefood Collective.
Where to buy 100% pure peppermint essential oil?
I only use dōTERRA essential oils as they’re one of three companies in the world who produce guaranteed (they have an 11-step independent testing process) 100% pure essential oils sourced from where they thrive naturally.
You can find information on purchasing doTERRA essential oils here. I’m also more than happy to send you a sample within Australia just contact me via one of my social media channels below.
