Milany gelateria - Hamilton, Brisbane

Milany Caffe e Gelato

January 2nd, it's normally a day where resolve for New Year's resolutions is still strong and many people the world over are sticking to their 'healthy eating for 2012' goals. I on the other hand, decided years ago that such goals for me only end badly. Instead I try to balance out my eating year-round. That is why I don't feel so badly sharing my latest dessert indulgence on the 2nd day of the year.

Milany

I have eaten a lot of gelato in my time including authentic scoops from the home of gelato in Italy. The closest I have found to the smooth, creamy deliciousness of real Italian gelato, happens to be within 300m of my front door. Now you can see why I have to exercise restraint year-round and not just as a resolution. Milany has the most amazing gelato. It's so silky and the flavours are amazing.

The selection

There are so many options to choose from you could eat here every day for a few weeks and still not sample them all. Although it's been open for a few years now, I've never tried their desserts, opting only for a few different scoops in a cup. My latest visit was different. My sister and I took our sweet-loving grandma to afternoon tea and boy did we indulge.

Death by chocolate $13

I decided death by chocolate was my dessert of choice. It was amazing. Although it looks like a ginormous icecream, I got through it pretty easily and it was delicious. My only complaint, this applied to other desserts as well, was that there was just a bit too much cream. If it was fresh, whipped cream there would be no complaint from me but this was just a little too much.

Coppa Exclusiva $21.90

Our grandma went all out and ordered the Coppa Exclusiva. This really was a chocolate-lovers delight. No one in my family is a particularly big dessert-lover so I'm thinking I got my sweet tooth from my grandma.

Coppa Exclusiva $21.90

Here's a close-up of the nutty-chocolatey delight. She loved it. About 5 times she exclaimed that we will have to return so I'm thinking it was a winner. Well that and the fact that she gobbled it all up. If you can't enjoy a giant dessert at 94 when can you enjoy it?!

Fruit salad

My sister was a little better than my grandma and me and ordered the fruit salad - a bowl of fresh berries and fruit topped with cream and raspberry coulis.

Dine in

Although the prices are at the high-end of the spectrum, it is worth it. You have the choice to dine-in or take away. It's a great little outing for the school holidays and they do kiddies versions of all the ice-creams as well. What about you, did you set any food-related resolutions for 2012?

Milany is open Tuesday to Friday from 3pm - 10pm and Saturday and Sundays 12pm - 10pm.

If you visit please make sure that you do not sit in any seat unless you have already ordered and are holding your purchase in your hands.

By purchase i mean it cant be takeaway either.

If you sit or linger with a takeaway purchase you will be asked to leave by the manager.

Im not kidding, happened today to my wife and I.

Perplexed, we stood and left immediately.

    Best of luck.

Ant this happened to some friends and me one time too. I didn't mention it for fear of putting people off but we got in quite an argument with him.

If you order take-away you must take away. If you're eating at the tables then you have to have it in a glass.

These look great. I was lucky enough to be taken for gelato at a small place on Lake Garda in Italy. There is nothing like real ice cream and these desserts look like they are a match for the real thing. Not sure I could resist, living next door! No food resolutions, they always get broken ! GG

They certainly know how to make it in Italy! The price is probably the only thing that keeps me away from the shop nearby.

A nice range of sundaes there! Actually round about now, since I've already had dessert that fruit salad looks good. Although normally I'd go for one of the other sundaes! :D

They have a huge menu of sundaes to choose from. It took me ages to make a decision.

Claire, I might have to come visit you just to go to Milany for dessert - of course only after you cooked dinner for me - nothing else would do! :)

Chris if you ever find yourself in Brisbane you have a standing invitation for dinner. I think we'd have gelato for afternoon tea first though so I'd still get to make you dessert.

After all the xmas food, all the cream would be way to much for me, too. I bet their gelato is lovely though!

    Hey Claire,
That looks like amazing gelato. Worth a visit to your side of town to try I think.

Have you sampled the gelato down at Rosalie? Everyone raves about that too?

    Cheers
    Kerry
