Introducing solids to babies

Introducing solids to babies doesn't have to be difficult or scary. Learn exactly (step-by-step) how to start your baby on solids from a nutritionist and mum.

Introducing solids to babies

From the moment he was born, my first baby has had a big appetite.

He was a milk guzzler and I knew he’d be a candidate for starting on solids as soon as he was allowed.

I have to admit though, I really had no idea how to start with introducing solids to babies.

What foods should I start my baby on?

When should I start my baby on solids?

How do I start solids? How do I cook baby's first foods?

Introducing solids to babies

Oh how the list goes on and I couldn’t seem to find a straight answer.

Some people were all about purees, some dead-set on baby led weaning (where baby feeds himself).

I know my way around the kitchen pretty well as you know so I decided to just take the ideas that worked for me, as well as tips from my friend Shannon the nutritionist and combine them all into my own approach.

Shortly after starting him on solids, Shannon and I were chatting about ideas we had to work together on helping people find a love for and learn how to cook and eat simple whole foods (basically just not stuff out of a packet).

We went through loads of ideas but one day, after overhearing someone say that they had to ask their mum how to cook sweet potato to feed their bub, we thought why not go right back to where it all begins - weaning.

We got together and brainstormed everything we knew about introducing solids to babies as well as every question we had when we were about to start.

The result - a comprehensive guide to initial introduction of solids aka Bub Grub the eBook.

In the book we cover:

  • when to start your baby on solids
  • how and what foods to start with when weaning your baby
  • why make your own baby food
  • how to pick, prepare and store foods (for purees and baby lead weaning)
  • a sample meal plan
  • a seasonal guide
  • a guide to fresh versus frozen foods
  • an intro to meat
  • lots more.

What we think sets the book apart from the rest, is the introduction to nutrition that covers all the essential vitamins and minerals and why they’re important to babies (and us too).

Each food also has a quick guide to its top nutrients.

Introducing solids to babies

This is the first in a series of eBooks.

Our follow-on book - Crawler Cuisine to Toddler Tucker - is jam-packed full of nutritious recipes all suitable from 6 months old and up and most of them are suitable for the whole family (and lunchboxes).

So far we have had a wonderful response from people who have bought Bub Grub with some even buying it as a baby shower gift (what a great idea!).

If you are about to start your bub on solids or know someone who might love the book (what a great present hint hint) you can purchase it by clicking on the button below.
