For most people, alcohol and special occasions go hand-in-hand.

Not so much when you’re preggas which I have been for quite a few big events not to mention my 30th Birthday.

I’m not really a big drinker even when I’m not pregnant but I do love a cocktail.

These days I go for the mocktails.

Give me something sweet and citrussy and I’m in party drink heaven.

I love a mojito but I have grown very fond of the mock mojito that I have at a place at the coast and somewhere in Brisbane also does a similar thing but with added passionfruit.

Can you see where this is going?

Yes of course I had to come up with my own version.

Passionfruit is one of my favourite fruits and every year I get excited to see them in the shops but you could use canned passionfruit if needs be.

I’m still yet to get a single fruit from my vine so store-bought it is around here.

I think this mocktail is so delicious you won’t miss the alcohol one bit and it sure looks fancy served to guests (or to treat yourself).

You do need a blender to make this but if you don’t have one, you could put the passionfruit in a bowl and mash it with the end of a rolling pin to make a syrup.

The sugar is also optional.

I made it with and without - it’s best to taste your passionfruit and if it’s a little sour, add the sugar.

I make my own soda with a Soda Stream.

I can’t tell you how easy it is to make sparkling water with one.

Well actually I can - you just fill up the bottle with water (I use filtered to make it extra special) insert the bottle into the machine and press the top down to add the sparkle.

You can even control the bubble level for those who like an extra fizz.

It works with a gas cylinder that’s attached to the back and each one, (you can swap and go at places like K-mart) makes roughly 60L which means it costs as little as $0.40 a litre for plain sparkling water with no waste and only going to the shops to swap the gas.

How easy is that?

What about you? Do you love cocktails?

How about mocktails? Have you ever used a SodaStream?

    Hi Claire,

I love your photos so much! Could I ask for your permission to allow me to use one of these photos to share on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/coffice.hanoi?fref=ts)? We are going to organize an event to teach people how to make mojito. Hope you agree! Thank you a lot!

Hi Hyuen. Thank you. That's not a problem as long as there's a link back to my blog with it. Thanks!

I need to drink more water, it is a terrible habit to get to the end of the day and realise that you haven't had water all day. I much prefer sparkling water and know I would drink more water if I had bubbles on tap so to speak.
I love cocktails too but that's another story :-)

Haha yes cocktails are a whole different story. I try to keep up water but it's tough isn't it?!

I had a Soda Stream in the 1980's, small glass bottles back then, the Soda Stream had a smokey plastic cover that the bottles went under and from memory there was a handle at the side used to start the carbonation process - no idea what happened to that Soda Stream, it's long gone. I do have a couple of the new Soda Stream plastic bottles that you can buy separately, they attracted my attention as they're a great size to hold filtered water in the fridge. Anyway, how technology has changed, the new Soda Streams look fab.

Oh wow Michelle. I wish they still made them with glass bottles. They're rather fancy looking now aren't they?

I love cocktails, but don't like to drink when I'm driving so mocktails are fantastic! I'd love a soda stream so I can make healthy drinks for my husband and kids who all love a fizzy drink!
