I have two giant recipe books full of slow cooker ideas. Given that I have a 4.5L slow cooker, I've been reluctant too try anything too different for fear of having to eat 4.5L of something not so good. That is until now! Yet another tip I got from the Simple Savings website was to use oven bags in the slow cooker. You just put a different meal in each one, seal them up (with a little hole for steam) and cook as usual. Isn't it genius?!
Here are my two little meals cooking away (yes the lid should be on) together. You need to make sure that the steam can get out otherwise you might have an explosion on your hands. I made up my recipes, one chicken one beef from what I had in the freezer.
The chicken creation wasn't really recipe-sharing worthy. It was good but not my best creation. I'm loving the throwing in a big piece of meat and shredding it later as seen in Butter Chicken. You don't even need to defrost it.
On the other hand, I found the beef delicious. I served it with couscous and veges but it would have been just as good with pasta or over mashed potato.
Here's what I did.
Enjoy!
Recipe

Two-at-a-time Slow Cooking and Beef CreationC
Ingredients
- serves 4 170 calories per serve (not including sides)
- 300 g beef 10oz- use whatever you have - I think mine was a very inexpensive cut on special from super butcher
- 1 tin tomato
- 1 tbs Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup of pureed broccoli/carrot this is my new tip for upping the veges and bulking out a recipe without it seeming like you're eating a mountain of veges
- 1 teaspoon gravy powder
- 1 tablespoon Masterfoods Seasoning - all purpose seasoned salt I got this as a free sample from Coles
- salt & pepper
Instructions
- Throw it all in the slow cooker in the oven bag and cook on low for 7-8 hours. When the time is up, shred the meat with a fork.

That's such a clever idea using oven bags inside a slow cooker! And two meals in one makes it perfect if you're having company over :)
