I was pretty specific about the food I wanted at our wedding... lots of it! I didn't want the traditional two different meals with alternate drop. I wanted variety and options and for it to feel like a big family feast. Finding a caterer that met my requirements was tricky business but not for my wedding planner extraordinaire mother. I don't know how she did it but she found Mia at Spoon Fed Catering - who make the best food I've ever had catered!
What's even better, Mia's partner Paul runs Bottle Fed so they have the drink and bar service covered too.
It's no mean feat catering for 105 people at a private venue. Our garage was cleaned out and set up like a professional kitchen for the night. I didn't get to look at too much of the production action on the night but I asked our brilliant wedding photographer Karen Buckle to take lots of food photos for me and that she did (all of the photos in this post were taken by her).
Straight after the ceremony, while we were off having photos, the guest mingled, chatted, drank and were treated to a selection of delicious canapes. These were the Yorkshire puddings with roast beef or smoked salmon topping.
The goat's cheese tarts were delicious. Sadly I didn't get to sample too much of the canape food. Will and I were too busy accepting congratulations and greeting all our lovely guests.
After mingling it was time to take our seats. Yes we somehow managed to seat 105 people inside my parents house (I'll share some photos of the whole set up soon). We didn't have the usual printed menus, instead we had a blackboard made and painted. Can you tell I wrote it the text?
When the guests arrived at their seats, the salads and side dishes were ready and waiting along with a fresh piece of crusty ciabatta bread. Mum and I organised all details in the set up of the tables.
Each guest ate with silver cutlery loaned to us from our very trusting and wonderful family and friends. It was very special to eat with my grandparents' cutlery on my wedding day. They were there in spirit!
Here's a better view of the kitchen set up. It's only a one-car garage but they managed to make it look enormous.
Mia, the star of Spoon Fed is in the black.
We had three different side dishes for everyone to nibble on and they were topped up if they got a little low. The first was a Greek salad with the most delicious feta. I must ask Mia where it's from. That's another thing I loved about them, they use lots of local produce which is in abundance on the Sunshine Coast. I like this one much more than that fancy Greek salad on Masterchef last night. Did anyone see that?
The potatoes were so good. Little halved kipfler potatoes were cooked then char-grilled and layered with a delicious sauce and pancetta and rocket.
We had to have some greens too and the asparagus/broccolini combination was cooked to perfection.
Then came the meats. The waiters carried big platters of each meat and guests could choose one or all three and have as many helpings as they could fit. The Moroccan chicken was spiced to perfection. Mia and I had a little debate over the type of chicken. I don't like thigh and she doesn't like breast. We settled on half-half. It was delicious!
Next up was the eye fillet of beef. Yum yum yum.
Did I mention that the garage was downstairs so the waiters had to walk up and down the stairs about a million times? They must be super fit. They didn't look flustered at all and were just fantastic all night.
The star dish in most eyes was the prawns. They were butterflied and barbequed and served in the shell with the heads and tails. Oh they were good. I saw quite a few plates piled high with prawn shells. Everyone loved them.
You'll probably be shocked to hear this but Will and I didn't have a wedding cake. Will doesn't really like cake and personally, I think that a lot of wedding cakes are absolutely beautiful but aren't ever really that tasty. It's all about the taste to me so we opted for dessert instead.
It just happened that all the girls were gathered together when the dessert arrived. Of course though because my friends love food as much as I do.
The little pastry tart shells were filled with chocolate ganache, lemon curd or passionfruit curd and then piled high with delicious sweets like fairy floss, fruit, berries, chocolates and honeycomb.
I was just a little bit excited to dig in and dig in I did!
I have to say a massive thank you to Mia and Paul and the Spoon Fed and Bottle Fed teams. They did a spectacular job. Everyone raved about the food and the service. I would highly recommend them for any special occasion. They do little things too. We had Mia and Paul cater a dinner for 12 for dad's 60th last year and it was amazing (they even made the gelato and sorbets for dessert!).
Another thank you to our photographer Karen Buckle for taking so many food photos. I don't think there are many brides who have that on the must-photograph list.
What about you? What do you think of wedding cake?
Don't forget - if you've always wanted to have a little herb and vege garden at home enter to win a 4-layer stacking garden!

My hubbies cousin is a chef and we asked him to do the same kind of thing!!! at the last min, my mother-in-law of less than 2 hours, told me I had to sit down at the bridal table and I would be served. I was only given 3 different things of her choice on my plate, so I didn't get to try all the things I really wanted!!!!! I was so disappointed but was trying to make my new family happy. fab pics of the yummy food and gorgeous pic with all your girlfriends. happy days. :-)

Firstly you looked beautiful in these photos. It was obviously a very happy day with lots of smiles. The food is wonderful and so much better than the often very average food we often have at weddings here. The reception of areal foodie. How fabulous to be able to have the whole thing at your parents house, it makes it even more special. GG
Claire says
Thanks GG! The food was amazing and yes it was so very special to have it there. We'll be visiting and re-living it for years and years.

I can't believe you had the reception in your parents house! My parents had our 21sts at home and that was enough! It's very hard to eat at your own wedding. You're just so busy and the food tends to just pass you by. I can't believe you didn't have a cake. With all the baking you do! I've made all my sister's wedding cakes. It has made the 'getting ready for the wedding' part very stressful (driving a three-tiered cake to the reception venue knowing there isn't a spare if anything happens to it) but it's been something lovely for me to be able to do. You looked stunning at your wedding. Love your hair. xx
Claire says
It was at their beach house at the coast but yes it was quite the production. So worth it though it was perfect!
That's exactly it. I knew I could do something just as tasty as someone else so it seemed a bit crazy to pay someone. Maybe I'll make an anniversary cake! There was no way I was making my wedding cake.
You must have been freaking out all the way there!
Thank you. My family friend did my hair! x
