Ironing board chicken
Ironing board chicken

Today's video is a little bit silly. At the Food and Wine Show last week, chef Andrew Fielke, apart from teaching us all about good old Aussie bush tucker, put on his apron and showed us how to do the ironing. Ok so he didn't whip out his freshly-washed socks, he was ironing a piece of fish.

Skeptic though I was, I sampled a little piece of the coral trout and it was oh so tender and juicy. Of course I raced home to try out a new use for my iron. Fail number one was forgetting to buy fish but I figured as long as I flattened it out, ironing board chicken might just work.

Work it did. The chicken cooked in no time at all and was nice and juicy. Sure, it's not something you'll do every day and it's probably not easier than cooking in a pan but there's no washing up and it's a good part trick!

My only tip is to make sure you don't forget the baking paper. Raw meat + iron = having to buy a new iron. Enjoy!

What about you? Have you ever ironed anything other than clothes?

Just the idea of cooking with an iron gave me the giggles. Wonder if it also makes a good pancake reheater. :p

Haha happy to entertain Melissa. I reckon you could even cook pancakes like this. They'd be rather flat though.

It really annoys me when people in this house leave the iron and the ironing board set up in my kitchen. Now I needn't worry. I can just say they're kitchen appliances. Who would have thought laundry equipment had a use in the kitchen xx

Not at all Charlie and you could ask them to iron a piece or two of chicken while they're at it and there's your dinner!

I've used my washer, on the spin cycle, to spin a huge load of lettuce but this is a new one and a fun idea for me Claire, love it! Love the name!

Love it! I once saw Rick Stein poach fish in a kettle, he poached an egg too! You could write a whole cookbook on how to survive in a Hotel Room... x
