I'm going to show you how to make dry shampoo without the toxic rubbish that's in your store-bought version so you can have 'clean hair' even if you haven't washed it for a few days.

I have ALWAYS washed my hair at least every second day.

Even when I had newborns, I couldn't go more than that time without washing my hair.

I just can't stand the look of it being greasy.

Yes I probably should have just gotten over it but that was probably something that helped me feel sane.

Clean hair = got my sh!t together. haha if only right?

These days, my hair routine goes a little like this:

Day 1 - wash hair at night and let it air dry

Day 2 - probably straighten my hair

Day 3 - leave it as is

Day 4 - dry shampoo

Day 5 - dry shampoo and curl or some sort of styling

Day 6 - wash (or rinse it to get another day out of it)

Seriously that's it. But I don't use any of that rubbish from the supermarket. I make my own dry shampoo from a few ingredients I have at home.

Dry shampoo

I'm going to show you how to make dry shampoo without the toxic rubbish that's in your store-bought version so you can have 'clean hair' even if you haven't washed it for a few days.
Prep Time5 minutes mins
Total Time5 minutes mins
Course: DIY
Cuisine: non-food
Author: Claire Cameron

Materials

  • 2 tablespoon arrowroot powder or cornflour
  • 3 drops rosemary essential oil
  • 2 drops tea tree essential oil
  • 2 drops lavender essential oil

Instructions

  • Place all the ingredients in a glass jar and give it a very good shake.
  • To use, apply with a make up brush (preferably before you put your clothes on for the day).

Seriously it's the easiest thing ever.

Variations

Oh and if you have brown hair, add a bit of cacao (yep the stuff you eat) to darken it.

I use essential oils in mine not just to make it smell nice:

  • Rosemary oil - great for hair growth and thickness
  • Lavender oil - keeps it shiny and prevents dandruff
  • Tea Tree oil - cleansing, antibacterial and antimicrobial and can help unplug hair follicles and increase hair growth

I mix mine up and store it in a glass jar.

One batch lasted me a few months.

Use

When it's time to apply, I use a makeup brush to brush it on. I highly recommend doing it before you get dressed so you don't cover yourself in white powder.

That might not be a great look.

I made a little video demo for you too.
