I have to credit my mum for introducing me to this fantastic little piece of kitchen equipment.
My vacuum food saver has revolutionized my life.
No I'm not exaggerating, I swear.
Seriously, how many other machines can do this...?
(I guess the Thermomix comes close.)
This machine can seal and vacuum seal just about anything.
Here are a few of my regular uses:
Use it to seal opened packets of anything from nuts to chips to party bags. This machine will re-seal chips and biscuits like they've never been opened!
I use it to package my fresh meat ready to freeze. Simply cut it up or separate into the size of one meal, put it in the machine, hit the button and you're good to go. It eliminates that horrible freezer burn and if you flatten it out, it makes it very easy to fit in the freezer.
Make up a big batch of your favourite meal and seal it up ready to stack in the freezer for at-home takeaway. There's more... the bags can go straight in the microwave (with a small hole - don't forget this, I learned the hard way!). No washing up = happy Claire.
Mum uses hers to vacuum pack all dad's winter jumpers, protect her freshly-polished silverware and marinate meat. Marinating meat in these is super easy. Throw in your raw meat and sauce, squeeze out as much air as possible and seal. Put the bag in the fridge for however long you need to marinate the meat for then when it's ready, cook it up or freeze it.
You have to make sure you get decent quality bags or they won't vacuum (they'll just seal).
Just to recap on this amazingly helpful little piece of equipment...
- freeze meat in ready-to-cook portion sizes
- freeze your favourite meal ready for at-home takaway
- seal your biscuits, chips and nuts so they don't go off or soggy
- protect your winter woolens in summer
- marinate meat
- freeze pre-cooked meat ready to add to meals or sandwiches
I'm sure there are lots of other uses for the fabulous vacuum food sealer. If you have one at home and use it for something else I'd love to hear about it.
Do you have a kitchen gadget that has revolutionized your life?

This machine is a great way to stop food wastage - there's nothing worse than 10 packets of open stale chips or biscuits in the cupboard, which inevitably happens to me as a singleton. Thanks for sharing.

I have one of these too! Bought from an online discount store, and I use mine all the time! I just wish the darn bags weren't so expensive.. ;-)

You know this is one of those machines that I've always wanted to get my paws on! I think my kitchenaid did that for me because I've never really been able to knead dough before that (weak arms).

Lorraine I guarantee it is worth every cent of the $64.95! Oh I would love love love a Kitchenaid mixer! It's my big wish list item. I'm still undecided on colour but ice blue is at the top of the list at the moment.
