When I first wrote this, I couldn't believe I was the mother of a 6 month old. I wonder what that version Claire would think if someone popped in from this year and told her she's now the mum of 3!

I guess it's a bit like I couldn't believe it when I turned 20 and I was no longer a teenager then I couldn't believe it when I wasn't living at home anymore.

It was crazy to think that I was a married woman and then a pregnant married woman.

Do you ever feel your actual age or are you always a teenager with extra responsibility living in an older person's body? I think I'll always feel that way.

A lot of my teenage habits I left back in the late 90s but the 10.30 morning tea bell rings in my head every morning.

Some days it's a little late but I can rarely get through a morning without a nibble on something.

I try to make it something healthy and seeing as my time is a bit limited these days, quick is another key.

Food processor or Thermomix + nuts + dates + flavour seems to be my perfect recipe at the moment.

Ingredients

  • Roasted almonds - you can use raw but roasted gives more flavour
  • Dates - pitted
  • Raw cacao
  • Ginger - powdered
  • Vanilla bean paste - or use vanilla extract. Here's how to make your own vanilla extract.
  • Sesame seeds
  • Sunflower seeds

My latest creation involves chocolate and ginger - choc ginger nut and seed balls - a winning combination in my books.

Try my choc-ginger biscuits if you're after a sugar-filled creation involving the two.

Mmm cookies. Ok back to the subject.

This time I added some seeds to the mix for added goodness. If you wanted to go all-out healthy and raw you could use raw almonds but I love the flavour the oven roasted almonds give and they release their oils as they're processed to help all the other bits stick together.

If you're using raw nuts you might need to add some coconut oil.

Instead of rolling them into balls, I pressed them firmly into my measuring spoon to make neat little snack domes.

If you wanted to make perfect balls, sticking two of these together would be the way to do it.

I devoured a batch of these in a week.

If you use doTERRA essential oils, you could use a drop of ginger essential oil place of the powdered oil. If you're looking to get started with oils then I'd love to hear from you (you can see how to get in touch below).

Enjoy!

It's been a very long time since I was a teenager but I do understand. We are all the product of our upbringing. I always want something about that time too but we never had morning tea in the states. :)

I continually shocked by how old I am; I still feel like I'm in my mid-30's! We seem to get older without realising it. I love the look of these balls (or half moons) and chocolate and ginger are such a great flavour combination xx

These look perfect for a mid morning treat. There are often moments when I stop and realise I'm not in my 20s anymore. Those new responsibilities are often a sweet shock. GG
