Miss Sydney sent me a snapchat yesterday morning. 'My boots' first outing for the season.' I replied with 'no boots here just bootcamp.'
The weather it just one of the reasons I love living in Queensland. While other states are starting to feel the chill creeping in, there's just a slight hint of cool in the mornings and evenings here.
It's nowhere near cool enough for refreshing smoothies to be replaced by warming oats though.
Although having said that, I have been known to sit in front of a heater shivering as I guzzle down my ice-cold smoothie. I find if you follow it up with a cup of tea the chill doesn't last long.

Last week, mum arrived home from the coast with a bag of passionfruit for me. There's this little fruit shop half way between here and the beach that has great prices and I think most of it is from the area so if she has time, mum usually makes a stop.
My first thought was baking with them. Then I spotted my new mason jar cups - perfect for an afternoon smoothie.
Since I had my little aversion to milk (I think I became a bit lactose intolerant) while I was pregnant, I've been doing a lot of experiments with alternatives, mostly almond milk, so I was eager to try Sanitarium's new So Good Almond and Coconut Milk.
Because what goes better with raspberries and passionfruit than coconut?

The one thing I was worried about when I cut out milk was not getting enough calcium but almond milk actually has just as much calcium as regular milk which is nice to know and two thirds the calories of low-fat milk.
That means it has waaay fewer calories than the full-fat milk I drink usually - great for operation-loose-baby-weight.
The new coconut almond milk can also be used anywhere you'd use regular coconut milk. I'm thinking a low-cal version of my Thai chicken noodles would be perfect. Mmm chicken noodles...
Anyway I digress, (sorry baby brain does that to me - the number of topics I can cover in a minute has grown substantially) back to the dairy free raspberry passionfruit and oat smoothie.

It's just five ingredients so is whipped up in record time which is a new requirement for afternoon tea around here.
I added some oats too for a fibre boost and to fill me up enough to get me through to dinner. You just have to make sure you blend it until smooth because chunks of oats aren't all that nice to drink through a straw.
This technically made two serves but as it was just me, I easily managed to knock off both serves, while making tortillas for dinner (multitasking is another new skill of mine).
Feel free to be a piggy like me and have it all to yourself or if you're really nice you could share it. Enjoy!
What about you? What would you use almond and coconut milk in?

Hi Claire, lovely use of passionfruit! How about adding it to the Food on Friday: Passionfruit & Tamarillo collection over at Carole's Chatter? Cheers

Thanks Carole!

I love your drinking jars and in fact, I bought a couple of cases of them for Archie's party! I lost a few though as we used them for beer and some of the revellers walked out with them! I know what you mean by 'baby brain' - I still have it. I don't think it leaves. What a beautiful looking smoothie. I've also switched to almond milk xx
Claire says
Oh no! They're great though aren't they? Oh dear to baby brain hanging around.

Firstly, how great is Snapchat! My sister, mum and I send each other many messages per day. And secondly, that milk sounds amazing! Coconut and almond milk! I must look out for it.

So good. I get in trouble from mum if I don't snapchat her every couple of hours.

I love the colour of this smoothie and I'd probably be just like you and not share. Shame on me.

It's super healthy so I think it's ok!
