Let me show you five ways to make money online (even if your business is physical) so that you can get an income boost to your business this month.

Making money online, while you sleep seems like living the dream doesn’t it? But it can also seem pretty illusive. Let me tell you, I thought it was until about a year ago. I can remember how amazing the feeling was.

The feeling when I woke up, looked at my phone and saw that I’d made money while I slept. It was pretty awesome.

Would you like to make money online this month?

Here are five ways to make money online. I have so very many more ideas for you, but I’ll stick to five for this post…

Five ways to make money online (even if your business is physical)

1 – Online workshops

Last year I started running workshops in my business and they were a brilliant addition to my income and my arsenal of resources.

No matter what your business, there’s something you can teach you audience.

Are you a hairdresser? – 5 easy hairstyles for long hair

Make face masks? – How to decipher the labels of your beauty products to make sure you’re avoiding the nasties.

Accountant? – How to keep track of your finances or create a budget.

Think of a problem your customers have or a question you get asked a lot and design a workshop to help solve it or answer the question.

For me… I created:

I charge $19 for the live workshop and then list the replay as a product in my online shop for $24 after (people who view it live get free access to the replay).

It doesn’t have to be hard.

You can get technical and use professional tools or it could be as simple as a shoutout via social media (or even a text), sending invoices to people who are interested and running it in a private Facebook group you open just for the workshop.

What is your business? What sort of workshop could you run?

A few more ideas:

Beauty salon – make up lesson – do a few different styles or if one particular thing is really popular at that time – run it on that

Shoe shop – how to care for your leather shoes

Nursery – guide to indoor plants

Clothing store – pick 10 items from your store and run a workshop on all the different ways you can put them together or how to create 30 outfits from 8 items etc

Own a restaurant – run an online cooking class

Kids cheerleading school – run a workshop on how to do hair for events

2 – Sell a guide or eBook

Selling an eBook is much more simple than you might think.

Don’t get me wrong, writing an eBook – for example Crawler Cuisine to Toddler Tucker – can be A LOT of work.

But, it can also be as easy as putting together a collection of your best or most popular blog posts and offering them for a set price.

You can use tools like Canva to create them or just use a simple word processing program like Word or Pages.

To sell them, I highly recommend Samcart but again, if you’re just starting out it can be as simple as asking your audience or clients through whichever way you communicate with them (email, social media etc) if they’re interested, getting them to transfer money and emailing it to them.

A couple of ideas:

  • a collection of recipes – this doesn’t have to be just food. It could be something like recipes for hair masks or homemade cleaning products.
  • a guide to caring for houseplants
  • a beginners guide to making your own jewellery

3 – Coaching

What do you know a little bit more than the average person?

You can be teaching and sharing how to do that.

What do you get asked about all the time?

Is it?…
– budgeting

– gluten-free cooking

– decluttering

– how to style kids hair

– scrapbooking

– getting a job or promotion

– making money from home

– opening a shop front

Whatever you are currently giving your advice on (for free) based on experience, you can be coaching people on.

That is called one-to-one coaching or mentoring or consulting.

You can sell sessions for anywhere between $50 & $1000.

Here’s how my friend Bek did it:

  1. Posted on Facebook availability for 5x spots this month as a business mentor and asked people to comment below or PM for more details. In the message, she added her rates and asked if they would like to book a spot.
  2. For payment, she sent them directly to a PayPal ME (costs nothing to set up). It is a link, with the cost at the end. It looks like this – https://www.paypal.me/ClaireKCreations/50
  3. Once payment is received she messaged them a link to book into her Calendly link (I use the free plan). I use Acuity.
  4. Once time is booked she sends a quick questionnaire to answer and send back 24 hours before the session.
  5. 30 minutes before the session she reads through the questionnaire, researches their website etc then sends a link to join her in a Zoom meeting room (it’s a web chat program similar to Skype), record the meeting while they’re chatting and then send the replay.

It doesn’t have to be a difficult process and you don’t need to spend a tonne of money to set up tools and pay for programs. You could even just use the phone or Skype and organise the time with a couple of back-and-forward messages.

What sort of coaching could you run?

4 – Become an Affiliate

Being an affiliate is when you promote someone else’s product on their behalf and take a % of the $ as a commission.

Effectively you get all the benefits of creating and selling a product without actually having to do any of the creating.

Even if you are a bricks and mortar store you can give this a go.

The most natural first step is to think about what you are currently recommending to clients or customers that you don’t sell directly yourself.

See if the company that makes it has an affiliate program, sign up and start making some money from those recommendations.

A few suggestions:

This also works if you have a physical store and a website or social media.

If you have a service-based business, could you get together with a complementary business (eg naturopathy and personal training) and offer each other a referral reward?

5 – Airtasker

If you’re new to Airtasker, it an online marketplace where people post ads for what they want done and you can bid on the ones you think you could do. It’s a great way to make a little bit of money on the side and people are often after professionals but don’t want to do the work searching for someone.

Just sign up, browse the job board, apply and make a little bit of moolah.

I hope that one of the five ways to make money online gives you some inspiration. Tell me… how are you going to make a little extra money online today?
