This may just be my last In My Kitchen post for the year. Once Bubba number two arrives (please come soon little one!), I’m taking a little break to spend some quality time with my little people. Don’t worry, you won’t miss out. I have lots of delicious recipes scheduled to keep you going for the rest of the year but there will be no on-the-spot posts so no peeks in my kitchen (check out Instagram and Facebook though, I’ll still be hanging around there).
First up in my kitchen and very fitting for the start of Spring, is a beautiful bunch of flowers from Poco Posy. I won them in a competition on Instagram and couldn’t have been more excited when they arrived at the door. These guys do a different set bunch every day delivered within 10km of the Brisbane CBD for just $30.
Speaking of spring, it’s not technically in my kitchen but I just have to mention that the jasmine is out in our neighbourhood. Ours hasn’t quite made an appearance but every time I walk past someone else’s I stop to give it a sniff.
In my kitchen is a huge supply of homegrown lemons. So many that Ollie and I set up a little basket at the letterbox the other day to sell/give some away (we said people could leave a donation but no obligation) along with some rosemary, chives, cumquats and eggs.
In my kitchen were two new flavour tastes from At One Foods (gifted). We were sent them to try and lets just say Ollie and I nearly had a fight over them. We got into the first one so quickly I forgot to take a photo. I hope these make it to the shelves too because they were delicious!
In my kitchen is a new spiral chopper. I only got it a week ago and already I’m obsessed. Probably my favourite thing to do with it so far is to make thin spirals of sweet potato or potato and then bake it with a bit of olive oil. It goes just like deep-fried crispy chips. So so good.
In my kitchen are two jars of almost-ready-to-bake banana muesli bars. Ollie loves these so much – as soon as he wakes up in the morning he needs to have a muesli bar in one hand and water bottle in the other.
I keep a stash of them in the freezer and while they’re not that hard to make, there is still dried fruit and nut chopping involved in prep. The other day I had the genius idea of doing a few lots at once and popping all the dry ingredients into jars in the fridge.
Now all I have to do is grab a jar and mix it with mashed banana and vanilla then bake. I think even husbands could manage that.
In my kitchen is/was a basket of homemade goodies. Ollie and I decided to try our hand at a little roadside stall. We made $2 for our efforts which went straight to his piggy bank. Not bad for a first effort.
In my kitchen is a selection of organic kids snack foods from Little Bellies (gifted). These guys make a great selection of organic kids snack foods that are a good alternative to a lot of the products on the shelves. You know I’m not big on packaged snack food for kids, but not everything can be homemade and convenience often wins out (Ollie has been known to eat a packet of kids rice biscuits in an outing) so it’s good to know there’s a better alternative. Here’s a little from them:
All our products are certified organic and produced in partnership with the world’s best manufacturers. They have no added cane sugar or salt, artificial colours, flavours or preservatives and, when sweetening is required, have been sweetened with grape juice, fruit powders or dried fruit.
“They contain plant-based, real-food ingredients such as organic flours, fruit and vegetable juices and powders, dried fruit and vegetables and vegetable oils. All except the biscuits – which contain organic wholegrains – are wheat free.
Thanks to Little Bellies, you have the opportunity to win a prize pack to sample the range along with a few of the new items like the apple and blueberry corncakes (a favourite of Ollie’s). The total prize is valued at $100 and includes:
